BR 2-18: How Elephants lost their Wings

I read How Elephants lost their Wings, because I am interested in the book's cover and painting. And the picture is very cute. This story based on a folktale from India. Once upon time, elephants could fly. They flew everywhere. They flew high into the sky and down to the ground. They even looped the loop. Sometimes, the gods flew on their backs. But the elephants were noisy. They yelled, and crowed like roosters. Trees and houses shook below them. They flew into trees and smashed them. They landed on houses and fell right through. Soon all the trees were broken and there were no houses left. The gods thought of a trick. They invited the elephants to a grand feast. The elephants ate and ate. When their tummies were full, they slept. The gods took away their wings. They gave them to the peacocks and the banana trees. The elephants were very cross. They shouted and they stomped. But they didn't get their wings back and they never flew again.

My favorite line is "They gave them to the peacocks and the banana trees." (Sims, 2007, p. 19) I wish the story is truth. I want to believe this story. But I might believe this story. I want to see elephants which have wings. And I want to go zoo, see them and ride on them.

BR 2-17: Baba Yaga The Flying Witch

I read Baba Yaga The Flying Witch, because the title has impact. I thought I want to read once. One little girl called Tasha lost her mother when she was very young. But before she died, she gave her daughter a tiny doll. One day, Tasha went to forest to meet Baba Yaga. Baba Yaga was going to eat Tasha. But Tasha's tiny doll helped Tasha. Tasha did what the doll said. Baba Yaga's dog and cat also helped Tasha because Tasha gave them ham and bread. Baba Yaga had never given her dog and cat any foods. So, they helped Tasha.

Then, Baba Yaga ran to Tasha, but Tasha threw down the mirror and the comb. The mirror became a wide, wide river. The comb became a huge mountain sprang up behind her. So, Baba Yaga gave up and sped back to her magic hut.

My favorite line is Tasha's mother said, "Give the doll food and water if you are ever in danger, and she will help you." (Davidson, 2008, p.6) Tasha cherished the doll and she always put it in her pocket. It is important to cherish mother's memory. I want to cherish many things. This story is interesting! I recommend you it.

BR 2-16: Frogs

I read Frogs, because I am interested in animals since I read Polar bears and Monkeys. I was able to know about frogs. Especially, I was surprised that frogs don't drink water. All frogs need water to stay alive. But they don't drink it. And each week, they change their skin. They wiggle and jiggle out of the old one. Underneath, there's a new one all slimy and wet.

Frogs live all over the world. There are frogs in deserts, rainforests and the other places. I know first time that all frogs eat bugs. And I was surprised that frogs have tricks to get away. Some animals eat frogs. One frog sees a bird coming. It blows up bigger and bigger and bigger. They bird is too scared to eat it and flies away.

My favorite line is "The largest frog is as big as a cat." (Courtauld, 2007, p. 17) When I was a child, I have seen big frog in the river near my house. It was about 30 cm. But I knew bigger one than it. Frogs come in lots of sizes. The smallest frog is as tiny as a raindrop. I want to see both.

I read Monkeys because I am interested in monkeys. In my opinion, my ancestors are monkeys! There are many kinds of monkeys around the world. Monkeys have golden fur or red faces or long noses or big, fluffy ears. Some monkeys have bright blue faces and bright blue bottoms too. Monkeys come in lots of different sizes and they live all over the world. Especially, I like pygmy marmoset. It is the smallest monkey. It can be just 35 cm (14 inches) high, and weighs as much as an apple. I want to see it at zoo or forests.

My favorite line is "Monkeys sit in hot water to keep warm." (Courtauld, 2009, p. 15) I was surprised at knowing it because they are like humans. They take a hotspring such as. It is very interesting! I want to see they sit in hot water.

I was able to know a lot of thing about monkeys. I knew mother monkeys' love. Mother wants to jump to the next tree, but her baby can't jump that far. So the mother reaches out and grabs a branch. Her baby crawls across her.

I was glad to read this book because I am interested in monkeys more and more. I want to see monkeys now. I didn't go to zoo for a long time, so I want to go zoo. I want to see many animals!

BR 2-14: Polar Bears

I read Polar Bears, because I think they are so cute. They are in danger of dying out. Some people hunt them for their fur or meat. But a bigger problem is global warming. The air is slowly getting hotter, which is causing the polar bears' icy home to melt away. Scientists think that there are only around 20,000 polar bears left in the world. You can find out more about polar bears by going to the Usborne Quicklinks Website at http://www.usborne-quicklinks.com/ and typing in the keywords "first reading polar bears". Then click on the link for the website you want to visit.

I knew many things about polar bears, for example, their tongues are black, sometimes a polar bear gets too hot, they like to eat seals best and the other things. I am interested in them more and more. And I suspected to how they spend in summer. I knew they eat seaweed, moss and berries instead of seals. And they eat fish and dead seabirds too, and almost anything else they can find. And female bears make a den in the early winter. This is a cave in the snow, where her cubs will be born. In the dead of winter, the mother gives birth to two or three cubs. They are so cute!

My favorite line is "A polar bear shakes itself like a dog to dry off." (Mason, 2009, p. 10) I have a dog now. So I know how it is. I want to know how much water they shake. And I want to see them at zoo or North Pole.

BR 2-13: The Boy Who Cried Wolf

I read The Boy Who Cried Wolf, because my father always says I am like the wolf. It is one of Aesop's (say Ee-sop's) Fables. There are a collection of short stories, first told in Ancient Greece around 4,000 years ago. Nobody knows exactly who Aesop was, but the stories are still popular today, and they are known all around the world. The stories are often about animals, and they always have a "moral" (a message or lesson) at the end. The moral of the story about the boy who cried wolf is: No one believes liars, even when they tell the truth.

I understood why I am like the wolf. I often approach my father on something and I cry like temporal end. My father replies to me seriously. But next day, I spend without the day before's things. My favorite line is when the boy named sam said "I've learned my lesson. Never again,". (Mackinnon, 2008, p. 43) I want to do self solution from now on.
